Great! Ping me, brian.glanz at Gmail for any help. I should customize our Ning for Seattle as opposed to the current SF themed default, don't you think? BG

Here we are :) The Twitterverse has consumed many social media based gatherings in the Seattle area, to great effect in many cases -- Seattle Twestival was a roaring good time, and 4/25 a couple dozen social media and nonprofit types converge at C...

Hi Brian,

It was great meeting you two on Tuesday.

I'm off to San Francisco for the next day or two, but would love to meet with you both over coffee sometime to talk about building a technology resource list for non-profits.

I'm in the Green Lake area, but could meet pretty much anywhere. Is there a day next week that you guys would be free?

Best,
Sarah

PS Oh, and, could I get those notes you took at the Speed Geek? I'd really love to post 'em on our page. Thanks!

Thanks Sarah, my wife Mohini and I plan to! She has more professional experience in CSOs and a solid technical background.

What brings you to Net Tuesday?
Helping technology to level playing fields.
Organization or Company:
Independent
About Me:
I am a web site and software maker. I have been a user interface designer, developer, a technical writer and editor, and I've even managed an R&D team. Most of my work has been about improving user experience.

My full professional background is not purely nonprofit, but my freelance work is. I choose projects that improve the business plans and technologies of civil society organizations (CSOs). The work is often as simple as improving the design of a web site, publishing event photography, or writing and editing documents.

The term CSO is fairly new, but growing in popularity to replace the term "non-profit." A CSO to me is any charity, government, school, small business, or any organization that is legally or effectively non-profit and contributes to a civil society. I support creation of CSOs to compete with for-profit corporations in any market and especially as suppliers of educational materials, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and other industries that are most fundamental to a civil society.

What I want to get out of Net Tuesday is...
Many CSOs need advice and a little help to improve their presence online. Many still need a web site they can maintain without paying the company who designed it.

Beyond web sites, CSOs often lack basic awareness of technologies that could save them money and expand their reach, such as free and open source software in general, Skype for telephony, digital photography and publishing, or social media like Twitter.

I want the good, smart people of Seattle Net Tuesday to connect CSOs with usable, productive technologies.
